Caprice Joins Blackpool

Defender First Signing Of The Summer

Blackpool have completed their first signing of the summer with the capture of 19-year-old right-back Jake Caprice.

The youngster has signed a one-year deal with the option of a further year, following his release from Crystal Palace.

He first came to the attention of manager Ian Holloway towards the end of last season, playing in a development squad match against Manchester United.

And after impressing enough to be offered a permanent deal, Caprice says he is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“I’m delighted to be here, my agent spoke to the manager after I trained with the club last season and played against United,” he said.

“I grew up at Palace from the age of 10 and it was a bit of an uncertain time when I left the club in the summer, but I’m just really happy that I’ve got things sorted and that I’ve got a new challenge in front of me.”

His progress at Selhurst Park was halted by the progress of another young prospect, in the shape of Nathaniel Clyne.

And the two have plenty in common, with the defender citing his attacking prowess as one of his major strengths.

“I’m a right-back, who loves to get forward and overlap and get in attacking positions, but I like to defend as well and it’s important not to neglect that side of my game.

“I’m still young and I’ve got plenty to learn, but I watched a lot of Blackpool in the Premier League and there are plenty of good, young players here, so I think it’s the perfect place for me to learn my craft,” he added.

Caprice took part in the Seasiders’ first pre-season training session of the new campaign earlier today, and will wear the number 35 shirt.
