Morrell: Friendly A Good Challenge

27 July 2012

Former Pool Striker Thrilled With Pre-Season Game

Andy Morrell believes that Blackpool will provide a good test for his Wrexham side in a pre-season friendly tomorrow.

The former Pool striker, now player-manager at The Racecourse Ground, was delighted when his old club agreed to play the fixture.

"It gives us a chance to play against a really good Championship team and see where we're at," he said. "It will be a good test because Blackpool play a similar formation and a similar way to the way we play. I'm hoping for a good game."

This will be Morrell's first full season in charge of The Dragons so gearing his players to hit the ground running has been a new challenge to get used to.

"I don't have to do the running if I don't want," he joked. "The lads have been great, and it's been interesting to try and get games and all that sort of stuff because it's a whole new world for me. I've enjoyed it so far, the lads look fairly sharp and in a couple of weeks we'll be back straight into it."

One of those players who will look to make a big impact is another familiar face, Brett Ormerod. The 35-year-old agreed a move to the club last month and has quickly settled in to his new surroundings.

"The lads love him, as they've done everywhere else he's been I'm sure," Morrell said. "He's a really good lad and a good player as well, and he'll add a lot to us, give us a bit of experience and goals as well. I'm sure he'll get a good reception from the fans that travel down."

A lot of Blackpool fans will be hoping to see a dream partnership of Morrell and Ormerod start the game against The Seasiders, although no decision has been made on that just yet.

"It would be nice but the main thing is for the lads to get fit so I need to work out who needs minutes and who doesn't. We'll be putting out a strong team to give Blackpool a game.
I played 90 minutes in a friendly on Tuesday so I'll get on at some point, if not start," he added.
