Baptiste Calling For Calm

26 October 2012

Defender Unfazed By Facing League's Toughest Defence

Alex Baptiste is hoping that Blackpool can kick-start a good run of form when they face Brighton tomorrow, but knows it will not be easy as they go up against The Championship's meanest defence.

Gus Poyet's side have conceded just eight goals in their twelve league games so far this campaign and lie two places above The Seasiders in the table.

After a run of just one win in six games Baptiste is calling for everyone to remain calm and believes the results will come.

“I don’t know if people expected we would just walk the league or something, but we’ve had a mini slump and it was important to get a result regardless and hopefully we can get a win on Saturday," said the defender.

“You don’t want to lose and we’ve been on the end of some dodgy results but we need to come together now as a team and as a squad and I think that’s what we are doing now.

"We’ve seen that it’s not going to be easy and you have ups and downs in any campaign so it’s nothing to worry about and hopefully we will go back on a run now."

Although Brighton are on a poor run themselves - without a win in five games, Baptiste is expecting nothing less than a hard match.

“They are a very good passing side and it will be tough.

“It might be a little bit cagey for the first 20 minutes with the run that they’re on and with us not firing on all cylinders at the moment.

“Hopefully we can get something out of it. We need to take each game as it comes and hopefully we can get the most points we can."

Although Brighton have scored just the once in their past five games they have a stubborn defence and have only let in four in that time.

Baptiste is confident though, that The Seasiders will have enough firepower to get the goals to supply the three points they crave.

“We had it at the start of the season, the best defensive record and people have scored goals against us so I’m not too worried about that."
