Holloway: We Need To Be Box Clever

8 October 2012

Manager Focused On Defence & Attack

Ian Holloway admits that The Seasiders need to be at their best in 'both boxes' if they are going to be successful in the npower Championship.

The manager was extremely disappointed with the manner in which his players conceded the opener against Charlton Athletic on Saturday and the challenge now is to defend better as a group.

"Everything you do can be completely undone if your not good enough in both boxes, and at the moment we're not on current form," he said. "A couple of weeks ago we were the best we've been because we spoke about it, we looked at it and we worked at it. People were positive, people were playing well, the attackers were buzzing and everything we hit was going in.

"We've got to get back to being harder to break down and harder to beat when it's not going quite so well and so smoothly. Let's get back up, keep going and realise we're not as good as people think we are or we think we are. I've always told them that isn't the case because we've got to make sure that we do the basics right."

Any team will always learn from mistakes and that is a message that the manager will be reiterating this week.

"What doesn't kill should make you stronger, as a unit and as a group. That's what we've got to keep thinking about and get on with it.

"It's all about results I'm afraid, and that's a terrible one from our point of view. Who's to say we won't get a load of them in a row or a load of wins in a row? We can turn it around very quickly," he added.
