Phillips Excited By Hampden Prospect

Winger All Set For Qualifiers

Blackpool winger Matt Phillips is hoping to make his first appearance at Hampden Park on Saturday, now that he's a fully fledged Scotland international.

The 21-year-old has joined team-mate Matt Gilks in Craig Levein's squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Macedonia, both of which take place at the national stadium.

“I have yet to experience the atmosphere of Hampden Park but I know from speaking to people who have experienced it that it is something special,” he said. “I can’t wait for these games to come and the preparation starts now. The supporters will be huge for us in these two opening games.

“The players will be doing everything they can to get off to a good start and the fans can definitely make a difference."

Phillips, who scored his first goal of the season for The Seasiders against Leeds United last month, is hoping for a better result than his debut if he manages to win his second cap for his country.

“I was delighted to make my debut against the USA but the circumstances were disappointing. We didn’t play well after a long season and the result was poor.

“Now the campaign starts for real and it is important for us to make home advantage count. I cannot wait for the game on Saturday and we will all be working hard this week to make sure we get off to the best possible start," he added.
