The Club Is Nominated For 'Outstanding Kickz Delivery' Award
Blackpool Community Trust have been nominated for the prestigious 'Outstanding Kickz Delivery' award.
Established by the Premier League, The Kickz scheme helps the most disadvantaged parts of the community by encouraging people to play football. The club has been nominated for the award, just days after winning the 'Reducing Crime and Violence in Blackpool' Award at the Fairshare Trust Awards.
Blackpool is one of the newest of the clubs involved in the programme, and it is proving to be a hit with the community, with more than 240 young people attending sessions at Sports Bar and Revoe since September.
The scheme delivers a broad range of projects, such as work experience at the club's Community Trust, a tour of the local police station and alcohol awareness sessions, and there have been regular football matches between the two centres.
Five young people have also embarked on Lancashire FA referee courses and are now officiating local matches while there have also been career workshops to help with interview techniques and CV writing.
One of the major projects of the last year involved the restoration of the Sports Barn facility, which was covered in graffiti. With the help of Blackpool Council, the young people refurbished the facility, which has been praised by local residents.
