Ince: We Were Worthy Winners

13 April 2013

Manager Reflects On Burnley Win

Paul Ince was extremely pleased to see his side claim another 1-0 victory, admitting The Seasiders "thoroughly deserved" the three points in the Lancashire derby with Burnley.

Ludovic Sylvestre's first ever goal at Bloomfield Road was the difference between the sides meaning Blackpool leapfrogged their counterparts.

"I thought it was a thoroughly deserved win," said Ince.

"I felt we started off a little bit slow in the first five or ten minutes, but once we got into it I always felt we were going to score every time we attacked.

"It's a pleasing win for the lads. They had a couple of chances where Gilks has made a couple of fantastic saves from Stanislas and Wallace, but apart from that they didn't really cause us any problems.

"I said to the lads that sometimes derby games are bitty and a bit scrappy and we would have to battle today - not just the MacKenzies and Broadfoots, but the Thomas' and Matty Phillips' had to battle too."

Ince was prepared for a bombardment at some point and was delighted with the way his defence stood firm and kept the back door shut, despite the best efforts of Burnley.

"We worked on it all week; we knew they were going to go into Vokes and Austin was going to run off him and I felt we dealt with it very well. I thought the two centre-halves were magnificent.

"At this stage of the season you just want the three points, it wasn't a great spectacle but it's about picking the three points up and moving up the table.

Sylvestre's second goal in as many games was a special strike and Ince was pleased to see the midfielder find the net in such emphatic fashion.

"It was alright to be fair! I would have liked to have scored one like that to be fair back in my day but I don't think I was capable of doing that!

"He scored a great goal against Forest and did it again today and it was a goal worthy of winning any game.

"I'm pleased for Ludo because he is one of those, who since I have been here, works hard and he always comes in with a smile on his face. The lads love him and he wants to improve and he will get better because I will demand that he gets better, because it's not just about talent it's about working hard with that talent also.

"It's a great win, a great victory for the lads and I thought the fans were fantastic, but we can't get complacent because we know how mad this Championship is. We know if we can get a result on Tuesday we will be safe and we can begin to look forward to the future," added Ince.
