Keeper Gives Thoughts On Season Opener
Matt Gilks says that Blackpool won’t take anything for granted when they face newly-promoted Doncaster Rovers tomorrow.
The Seasiders open up their Sky Bet Championship campaign against a side full of optimism and momentum following promotion.
“I think after a club gets promoted they get a spring in their step, and Doncaster have added a number of quality players to their side, they have a good manager now and they will be a very good test for us,” the goalkeeper said.
“I don’t think it will be easy by any means and we won’t be taking them for granted.”
After a testing pre-season for Blackpool, Gilks believes the players are raring to go ahead of the game at the Keepmoat Stadium.
“The lads are definitely looking forward to the match. I don’t think any players really like pre-season, or the hard work that’s involved, but we have worked hard and now it’s time for the season to start. This is when the lads get down to business and we are all looking forward to it.”
Gilks has already stressed the importance of getting early points on the board, if Blackpool are to make a challenge for promotion this season.
“I think you have to pick up early points in the season, you don’t want to be playing catch up towards Christmas.
“Obviously there are no easy games in the Championship, you could go and beat the top teams and then get beat by the lower teams, it’s a very competitive league.
“We have to be getting points on the board early to keep up with everybody else, and that begins this Saturday against Doncaster,” he added.
