Ince Looking Forward To Test Ahead

16 August 2013

Manager Confident As Seasiders Face Boro

Paul Ince returns to one of his former clubs tomorrow afternoon looking to build on the couple wins from the opening two league games.

The opening day win at newly promoted Doncaster was followed up by a last gasp victory at home to Barnsley last Saturday, but Ince knows that a strong Middlesbrough pose a fresh a test for his side.

"We've had two games, we've done well, we've picked up six points and that's all it is," said the manager.

"We can't get carried away and the next two or three games are going to be massive tests for us. They've spent £1 million on Albert Adomah, who is a fantastic player from Bristol City, so they are definitely pushing for play-offs at least.

"If you're spending £1 million on a player that means you're looking to get at least into the top six with that type of dough. With the quality of players they've got, I know Mustapha Carayol as I had him when I first went to Macclesfield, he was a very good player and it's great to see how much he has come on in the game.

"They've got players with experience, they've got Woodgate who has obviously played at Real Madrid, so they are a top side."

Angel Martinez missed last week's visit of Barnsley with a slight groin injury, but the midfielder has been back in training this week and Ince has been impressed with the midfielder throughout pre-season and in the early stages of the campaign.

"Angel has come back really sharp, a lot stronger, fitter and more focused than what I saw last year.

"He did well for me last year but he looks a different animal and we do miss him because on the ball he does see things and he can open teams up and he's a great character. A lot of foreign players come and don't mingle with the lads, but the lads love him here and he speaks better English than most of them!

"Technically he gives us something different and it's great that we've got him back on Saturday," he added.
