Lomax On Target In Youth Alliance Cup Victory
Pool’s youth team progressed to the quarter-finals of the Youth Alliance Cup’s Northern Section on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town.
George Lomax grabbed the game’s only goal in the second-half after the young Seasiders had hit the Silkmen’s post four times before taking the lead at Squires Gate.
The result puts Pool into the draw for the next round, which features the likes of Morecambe, Lincoln and Hull City.
Richie Kyle, the youth team’s Head of Coaching, was relieved to go through after a period of frustration in trying to finish off chances - and keep Pool’s winning run going.
Kyle said: “We’re through but we need to be more clinical in attack now and not rush our shooting.
“It was nice to get a clean sheet and it could easily have been a much bigger scoreline.”
The young Tangerines go back to league action next with a game against Morecambe at home on Saturday 14 December – their final league match before Christmas – and they then face Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup Third Round on 18 December.
Kyle wants to keep the squad on their toes going into the two matches before Christmas.
“The lads are fighting for places for the next two games,” said Kyle. “Nobody can be complacent despite this good run we’re on.
“Morecambe will want payback for the heavy defeat we dealt them earlier in the season, and we’ve got no new injury concerns at present.”
