Striker Hoping For Upturn In Form
Nathan Delfouneso believes that despite recent inconsistency, the self-belief in The Seasiders camp remains as high as ever, as they look to finish a tumultuous season strongly.
22-year-old Delfouneso grabbed a last-gasp winner in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Millwall, and now the striker wants the Tangerines to use the victory as a springboard to launch themselves up the Championship table.
“We believe that we’re a very good team,” said the England U21 international. “We believe that we should be up there and it’s down to us to go and show that. It’s all good saying that we should be, but we need to show it on the pitch as well. Hopefully this can be a step forward and we can start moving up the league.
“It’s always nice to get to get on the score-sheet and I’m happy for us to go on and get three points. It’s one of those where I made I run and the ball ended up ricocheting behind me and I just turned and tried to get my body in front. I got a touch and got it under control and managed to compose myself and finish it. “
The Aston Villa-loanee recently lost his place in Steve Thompson’s starting eleven, having to settle for cameo appearances against Barnsley and Millwall. After his seventh goal of the season sealed all three points on Saturday, Delfouneso is aiming to reclaim his place in the Blackpool front-line.
“If I’m honest, it has been a frustrating few weeks for me. That’s football and I’ve got to take it on the chin. Hopefully I can get a run back in the team, get starting and finish strong for the rest of the season.
“As strikers we live and die on goals, that’s basically what you’re there for. On an individual note I’m very happy to get the goal, it’s another one to my tally and hopefully I can get many more between now and the end of the season. It’s down to me to continue that, make sure I get myself into the starting eleven and that I score more goals.”
