Thompson Pleased With Performance

Caretaker Boss Admits He Couldn't Have Asked For Anymore

Steve Thompson was left "gutted" following The Seasiders 2-1 defeat after extra-time against Fulham in the FA Cup Third Round Replay at Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool were just seconds away from heading to the Fourth Round in normal time only to see Kieran Richardson fire home from the edge of the box in the last minute of stoppage time.

"We've gone through every emotion again," said Thompson. "It's very disappointing.

"The referee said that if any of our lads headed it at the end we've won the game but the pleasing thing is we've got a performance out of them."

The Caretaker Manager wanted a reaction from the players after the defeat at Charlton on Saturday and was ultimately left pleased with the improved display.

"The chances that we created, I couldn't have asked for any more from them.

"The work rate was brilliant, even in the last minute of extra-time we were getting lads doing overlaps and centre-halves bombing forward so from a performance point of view on a pitch that was getting hard I thought we passed it well.

"We started a little bit slowly but when we got into the game our passing and moving and getting into our wide men was good and I was delighted with the performance.

"We had good chances to kill the game off. It's pleasing that we are creating the chances but it's just that killer instinct in front of goal that we are lacking."

The Seasiders will now look ahead to Saturday's game at home to table-toppers Cardiff City and Thompson will turn the players' attentions back to The Championship immediately.

"We've got to take that sort of performance into league games and we've got a massive game now against Cardiff and we'll dust them down again and make sure they're raring to go for Saturday."
