Girls Winners Of 9 A Side Tournament
Blackpool FC Girls U12s travelled to Skelmersdale this weekend to take part in Dynamo Rangers 9 v 9 tournament.
With a squad of 14, including five new additions, the girls were looking forward to playing 9-a-side football.
In the first two group games Blackpool started very well and had plenty of possession and played some fine football without finding the breakthrough.
Third game in, Blackpool were up against an older age group and although they maintained good play and worked very hard they ended up with a narrow 1-0 defeat.
In the next match Pool started brightly and once again dominated play and it wasn't long before they found that first goal of the day, before going onto win 2-0 with goals from Hill on her debut.
In the fifth game Blackpool got off to a flyer when Minnie Rogers opened the scoring for the first of her brace on her debut. Further goals came from Bettison and a double from Lymer.
After the group stages Blackpool found themselves through to the semi-final and although they started well they found themselves going a goal down in the first few minutes.
Blackpool continued to play their kind of football by building from the back and being patient and the equaliser came before the interval from the outstanding Hill.
The second-half started and it wasn't long before the girls went in front with a great strike from distance from Slater.
They then added a third when debutant Collins made a strong run through on goal and finished well to see the girls through to the Cup Final.
The Seasiders started the brightest and had long spells of possession and despite creating several chances it remained goalless until the second-half.
Pool continued to dominate, but they still couldn't find the all important breakthrough meaning the game went into extra-time.
In extra-time Blackpool still looked strong and fresher and with less than a minute left Lymer found herself with space and managed to hit a shot that the keeper could only parry to the feet of the pouncing Hill, who made no mistake and finished from close range.
Within seconds of the restart the final whistle went and Blackpool were crowned Dynamo Champions for 2013.
Manager Mac Barlow was delighted with the way the Under 12s performed and said this after shortly after they received the trophy:
"I was very pleased with the way the girls played their football throughout the day, the way they looked to pass, switch play and be patient was a pleasure to watch. It was only a matter of time before the goals came and once they did the girls grew in confidence.
"Five new additions to the squad were all fantastic and fitted in really well, two new strikers, two midfield players and a quality goalkeeper. It's early days but I'm really looking forward to working with this squad and the challenges ahead with such a talented young group.
"To have complimentary comments about the way we play from all opposition coaches, referees & other parents is fantastic to hear and credit must go to the girls who are willing to listen, work hard and improve as individuals and as a squad.
"This group have a fantastic future and it will be interesting to see how far they do progress at this great Club and in the Women’s game.
"Well done girls."
