Angel's Diary: Day Five

27 June 2013

Latest Update From Portugal

In the fifth installment of his Portuguese diary, Angel Martinez talks about the success of Spanish football and reveals why his sunglasses got wet...

Today we had some time to rest because everyone is tired after three and half days of training. We have just enjoyed the hotel, the swimming pool and watching the TV. We will be back training tomorrow with the gaffer after recharging the batteries.

We all get a coach to training, breakfast and dinner every day and it is good to be with the lads. Our apartments have sofas and I can watch Real Madrid TV.

Banvo is now touching his toes on the floor in the swimming pool. Everybody is now watching but he knows so that's why he has his toes on the floor. Today I went very quick to the swimming pool because the sun was shining and I jumped in with my sunglasses on. They went on the floor but luckily they were Primark glasses for £2.99. That was very funny.

Everyone is enjoying the sunshine but Cathers and Doddy are under the umbrella because they go red quickly. They listen to stupid songs all day long. Cathers is a distraction and he wants to learn me some bad words and body parts in English with Bash.

Tonight I can't wait to watch the important match for Spain against Italy. I hope that Spain get to the final because it will be a good match against Brazil.

All the Spanish teams are doing fantastic at the moment - the national team, under-21s, under-20s and under-19s. The players have a philosophy to always play with the ball and everybody plays in the street everyday. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia have a second team in the second division and they compete every week with good teams. This makes it easy when they make the jump to the first-team.

We now have some very good young players like Gerard Deulofeu, Jesé, Isco and Thiago Alcantara. Our under-21s play for the top teams every week - De Gea at Manchester United and Javi Martinez at Bayern Munich. They are all winners. Gerard is from Girona, my city, and I know how he plays because he's very fast with good skill and scores goals.
