Phillips Raring To Go

27 June 2013

Winger Looks To Start In Top Form

Matt Phillips hopes that an uninterrupted off-season will help him to start the new campaign in top form.

The Seasiders' winger has had his holidays cut short in the past two seasons owing to international commitments, yet this time around he's had a full six weeks off.

"It's been nice," the 22-year-old said. "It was obviously disappointing not to go away with Scotland in the early parts of June but it's been nice to have a break to get ready for the new season."

Pre-season is always an important requirement for players to gear up for the campaign, and Phillips can't wait to get back in action following the odd injury problem last time out.

"I had a sort of break during the season, if you can call it that, when I injured my toe and I was out for two months so I'm raring to go," he admitted. "Hopefully when the games start coming I'll be right at it."

A couple of Yoga sessions that have been introduced out in Portugal could help him to maintain peak condition, with the exercise now widely utilised by players in the game.

"You hear about players like Ryan Giggs doing it so if it helps us when it comes to performing then we'll take it on board. If the top players are doing it and it helps them to recover, all the lads will buy into it and get on with it."

Blackpool return home from Portugal on Sunday and all attentions will then turn to the forthcoming pre-season fixtures, in the run-up to the league opener at Doncaster.

"No one likes to be running all the time because getting your fitness back is probably the hardest thing," Phillips said. "When the games come, that's when you really get our sharpness."
