A Soldier's Journey

18 November 2013

Charity Event To Be Held At Blackpool FC

Blackpool Football Club will host a very special charity event this coming Saturday (23 November), in aid of 'A Soldier's Journey'.

The charity was set up by ex-sergeant Rick Clement from the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. On 27 May 2010 while serving as an Infantry Platoon Sergeant in Afghanistan with the 1st Battalion in the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, Rick stepped on a pressure plate I.E.D and was seriously injured. It is a miracle he even survived, or rather a credit to all the medics from on the ground, the one on the helicopter that picked him up and those back at camp Bastion and in Birmingham and Headley Court.

Rick lost both his legs, suffered terrible internal injuries, was told he would never have children and his right arm was badly mangled.

The aim of the charity is to help the charities that helped him and his family. The sole aim is to raise funds for BLESMA (British Limbless Ex Servicemen’s Association), SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Families' Association), the ABF The Soldiers' Charity, Combat Stress and Help for Heroes.

During the night over 300 people will take part in a silent auction via an IPAD, operated by the specialist fundraising company BidTech. This technology allows anybody who registers their email to be able to take part in the auction, even if they are unable to attend the event.

There are some fantastic auction prizes available, ranging from an electric guitar signed by the Rolling Stones, to a David Beckham signed England shirt, a hot air balloon ride for two, an executive box at both Blackpool FC and Newcastle United and the star of the show, a brand new CCM GP450 Trials bike.

To make sure you take part and to pre-bid on any item you like, please send your name and email address to Once registered you will receive your special password and website address.
