Ince On McCarthy

8 November 2013

The manager's thoughts ahead of the Ipswich game

Paul Ince knows Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy well - he was in charge at Wolves when the Blackpool manager was in the twilight of his career.

Tomorrow the pair’s teams go head to head, as Ipswich travel to Bloomfield Road.

Although he won’t be in the dugout to greet McCarthy, Ince knows what to expect from his former manager’s side.

“Any team managed by Mick McCarthy is a tough game, because I know him from when I was at Wolves with him. He is a fantastic man and manager,” said Ince.

“It’s a very tough game; I watched them play against Wigan a couple of weeks ago, when they should have won. Then they went to Derby and scored four goals, so they can score goals away. They’ve got some good players and a lot of height.

“You can’t underestimate any team in this league, but if we play the way we have been then we’ve got a chance of winning the game. The reason that we’re doing so well is because the fans are behind us, there is no pressure on the team to perform.”

Two players Ince will have to do without for the visit of The Tractor Boys are Chris Basham and Bradley Orr, who will both miss out through injury.

“They’re not going to be available for Saturday, which is a shame. Especially with the type of character they both are, you think maybe they can get through Saturday and have a two week break, but no, hopefully they’ll be back for Birmingham, if not Sheffield Wednesday.”

Ince’s Blackpool side remain unbeaten at Bloomfield Road this campaign, and he has paid tribute to the players which have guided The Seasiders to fourth in The Championship.

“We’re fighting so hard, it’s unbelievable what the lads are doing at the moment.

“Tyler Blackett got thrown in at the deep end against Forest; he hadn’t played a Championship game and acquitted himself really well. We’re picking up results, but we don’t want any apprehension in the ground, because Ipswich are a very good side.”
