3-1 Victory For Seasiders
Goals from George Lomax and Dom Telford gave the youth team a 3-1 win at in-form Bury on Saturday.
Telford’s goal, coupled with two for Lomax, turned the match around for the young Seasiders after Navid Nasseri had given The Shakers a second-half lead.
Bury were also unbeaten in their last nine league matches ahead of the weekend and, being the last side Pool dropped points against, they threatened to end the Tangerines’ winning streak.
But Pool overcame the challenge to extend their lead at the top of the North West Youth Alliance and make it nine wins from the last ten league matches, leaving Academy Manager Ciaran Donnelly delighted.
“It was a test of the boys’ character against Bury,” said Donnelly. “Not much happened in the first-half but, when they scored in the second, I looked at John Murphy and thought the run was going to be over.
“The lads showed great will to win, though. They threw themselves at everything and came off completely covered in mud as they had to dig in.
“We could have scored more than three in the end because we battered them after they scored, but the overall performance was better than the one at Fleetwood over a week ago.”
The youth team will not be in league action now until they face Morecambe at Squires Gate on 14 December, which is followed by a midweek FA Youth Cup tie against Liverpool on 18 December.
