Rae: A Very Good Spectacle

19 October 2013

Assistant Boss On Win Against Wigan

Alex Rae was delighted that Blackpool managed to pick up all three points against Wigan Athletic, in a game he described as 'a very good spectacle'.

The Seasiders ended a recent hoodoo in front of the Sky Sports cameras to maintain their unbeaten home record courtesy of a well dispatched penalty from Thomas Ince.

Given that the visitors were playing Premier League football last season and lifted the FA Cup at Wembley in May, Rae was full of praise for the lads in tangerine.

"I think it was a very good spectacle, we went about our business well and it's great to beat a team of Wigan's stature," he admitted. "A lot of these boys were playing in the Premier League last year. It was a very good match for everyone and we're very delighted with the three points."

Plenty of character and determination was once again on display, with The Seasiders remaining resolute under some heavy Wigan pressure.

"There's one thing about this lot, they fight for every ball and they're very resolute, and they're match winners as well," he said. "The boys put their bodies on the line every week, they always block tackles and put their heads in. There's cuts and bruises in there but that's what you need to do to try and get success."

Given that Wigan hit the bar twice from balls put into the box, a fair bit of analysis will still be done when watching the match back on DVD.

"We will review the game because obviously we try and improve in every aspect. For me they probably had too many free headers in the box at set-plays today. That's something we need to sharpen up on for the next game," he added.
