McGahey Debut Delight

19 April 2014

Defender Makes First Appearance In Tangerine

Harrison McGahey hopes to build on his first appearance in a Blackpool shirt after making his debut for the club against Burnley yesterday.

The 18-year-old defender, a product of the youth team, was pleased with how he adapted to life in the first-team, despite a narrow defeat.

"I thought it went well and I enjoyed every minute of it," he said. "I thought we were unlucky to get a defeat because we played very well at times. We were unlucky not to score twice at the end.

"It was brilliant to make my debut. I found out on Monday morning after Barry pulled me into his office and said 'you're starting'. I was gobsmacked to be fair, but I was ready for it and I couldn't wait for it."

Spoken of in glowing terms by Ferguson post-match, McGahey received a few positive words in the dressing room and was quick to thank those that have helped him reach this stage.

"He (Barry) just said I was superb, just a few little mistakes. I just want to thank Richie and the coaching staff from the youth team for giving me this chance, as well as Barry."

The challenge now is to try and retain his place in the side, starting at Brighton on Easter Monday. The centre-back is prepared to keep working hard in an effort to impress.

"Richie said that I need to keep my head down and get in every week now. I'll just see how things go and take things week by week," he added.
