Clarke Prepared For Rhodes Reunion

14 August 2014

Defender Previews Blackburn Fixture

Peter Clarke is relishing the task of facing Jordan Rhodes on Saturday, as Blackpool host Blackburn Rovers in a Lancashire derby.

The defender spent time alongside the striker at Huddersfield Town and is well aware of his capabilities having watched him at close quarters.

"I think everyone is aware of the threat that Jordan Rhodes poses because he’s a very, very natural goalscorer," he said.

"He’s in the business of doing what is supposedly the hardest thing to do in the game, and that is putting the ball in the back of the net. He does it very, very well.

"As a group we’re going to have to be at our best to limit his opportunities and limit his influence on the game."

Rhodes has hit a total of 53 goals in 96 games for this weekend's visitors, but Clarke will look to utilise his past experience of facing up to him in training every day.

"I have a little bit of an idea about his game and the way he plays, his strengths and weaknesses," he admitted. "Hopefully that will be beneficial from our point of view."

The Seasiders head into the match on the back of two defeats, yet Clarke senses that things are starting to come together after a summer of transition.

"It’s obviously going to take us a bit of time to get there but there’s been some positive signs over the course of the last couple of games. The fact that we’ve still got players coming through the door is good, we’re adding bodies and quality. It’s all pointing in the right direction. It isn’t going to happen overnight but we’ll certainly get there," he added.
