Injuries A Concern For Riga

15 August 2014

Doubts Over One or Two Players

Blackpool manager José Riga has revealed that one or two players could miss out on the game against Blackburn tomorrow due to injury.

The likes of Andrea Orlandi and Jacob Mellis limped off against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night and will be assessed close to kick-off for the Lancashire derby.

"We have a couple of injuries and it's a consequence of our situation," he said. "We knew the cup game would be tough and we are exposed to getting injuries."

Tony McMahon is likely to return, however, after being rested in midweek, while Steven Davies is closing in on a return to action.

The main issue now is getting every player up-to-speed and at the right level to perform to their capabilities.

"Every game is difficult for us at the moment, as all the new players are coming in and we don't know where they are at physically. But we are working hard to be ready as soon as is possible."

One new arrival prior to the game has been Francois Zoko, a player that the manager has been aware of since his youth days.

"I knew the player at his beginning in Belgium and he still has some qualities," Riga revealed. "I believe in him. He is not fit yet and we will have to work hard to find his best level."

The fixture against Blackburn at Bloomfield Road tomorrow will be Riga's first home league one as manager, and he's been full of praise for the fans.

"Our big strength is to play at home in front of the fans, but away they've been great too. If you saw on Tuesday the reaction of the supporters, it was amazing. We want to give everything and do our job for the fans," he added.
