Lewis: Professional In Both Boxes

Goalkeeper Speaks Ahead Of Millwall Trip

Goalkeeper Joe Lewis has called on Blackpool to be more professional in both boxes when they take to the field on Saturday.

The Seasiders travel to Millwall on the weekend looking to claim their first points of the season.

One goal has settled all of Blackpool’s contests since the opening day, and Lewis wants Pool to slightly alter their approach.

“It’s about being clinical in their box and ruthless in ours,” said Lewis. “If we can get a bit more professional and clinical in both boxes then one goal here or there will be enough hopefully.

“A lot of people have been saying we’ve been playing well, but at the end of the day I’d rather play poorly and get three points.

“It’s a results business and that’s what we need to start thinking about, so we’ve been doing a lot of team shape, attacking and defensively.”

The stopper is yet to keep a clean sheet as a Blackpool player, but is only focused on the aims of the team.

“It’s what goalkeepers get judged on by a lot of people, but from my point of view if we won 5-4 on the weekend I’d be happy. But people do look at a clean sheet and that’s what we’re looking for, if you keep a clean sheet you can’t lose the game.

“We’ve got goals in us, we’ve shown that, and the way we’re playing we’ll create chances."

Lewis has played every minute for the club so far this season, and will be looking to mark his sixth Blackpool appearance with three points.

“Millwall have had a good start. I’ve played a few good games there in the past and it’s always a good atmosphere down at The Den, so hopefully we’ll go there, thrive on it and show what we can do.

“We’ve had some really good performances in stages throughout games, it’s about getting a 90 minute performance now.

“Going forward we’re trying to keep it as fluid as possible. We’ve had one or two new ideas that the manager has thrown in and the lads have taken to quite well, so hopefully we’ll see some of that implemented at the weekend,” said Lewis.
