MacKenzie Set For New Year Return

Defender Continues Rehabilitation

Blackpool manager Lee Clark has confirmed that Gary MacKenzie's recovery from an Achilles problem is now on track, with the defender set to return to training in January.

The 29-year-old is yet to feature for the first-team this season, having been blighted by the injury since tearing the tendon against Leeds United in April.

"Gary is approaching that stage where he's close to a return to training, which will probably be early new year," Clark revealed. "He hasn't played a lot of football so we'll have to get a lot of fitness work into him.

"I know what Gary's going through with an Achilles injury because I suffered two serious ones in my career. I understand the type of rehabilitation that's required with that injury, but come January Gary will be back in with the group training, looking to build up his fitness levels and be selected if and when required."
