Under-13 Girls Beat Manchester City

23 December 2014

4-0 League Cup Quarter Final Win

Blackpool Under-13 girls recorded their best result this season over the weekend, beating Manchester City Under-13s 4-0 in the quarter finals of the League Cup.

Chloe Pendleton, Sophie Slater and Katie Derby were all on target as the girls ended City's 100 per cent win record in all competitions this season.

"Obviously this was our best result of the season so far," manager Mac Barlow said. "Over the last four seasons we've always had great games with City, however we've never beaten them up until now so this is a massive result for us and one we're very proud of.

"We sustained early pressure very well with the players work-rate and organisation, however the longer the game stayed 0-0 the more confident we became and grew into this fantastic cup tie.

"Great pressure from Chloe Pendleton early in the second-half doubled our lead and we went on to play some great football with confidence high. Sophie Slater got our third with her trademark finish from long distance. Our fourth came from what we do best, great build-up play involving Lymer, Barratt and a cool finish from Kate Derby to seal off a fantastic performance.
"It's yet another clean sheet against a top side, defensively we're getting stronger and stronger and along with the attractive football we play, this squad has a great future in the Women's game.

"Well done to all the players, parents and our Sponsor Dental Decontamination for all your support. A fantastic ending to the year," she added.
