Midfielder Happy To See Frenchman AgainAngel Martinez was surprised to see Elliot Grandin back at Bloomfield Road last week - but is delighted to be team-mates with the Frenchman again.
The pair spent 18 months together in tangerine and were reunited last Tuesday when they lined up in the same side for a behind-closed-doors fixture.
"It was funny to see," Angel admitted. "We played a friendly match last week and I saw on the board my name, Dobbie and then Grandin. I was thinking that someone put Grandin's name joking. When I saw Elliot inside the dressing room I said 'Wow'. I didn't expect it but I know Elliot well and he's a good team-mate and an amazing football player."
Grandin is one of seven new arrivals in the last month, strengthening the squad and providing plenty of competition for places.
"He is going to help the team and it's good to have some different players in the squad. Fergie has some players to choose every game and we have to train hard because in every position we have many players. Competition is very good."
Angel started last Saturday's game against Nottingham Forest sitting in front of the back four, as The Seasiders came from behind to secure a point against Billy Davies' side.
"I can play in attacking midfield but playing in that position in front of the defence allows me to receive the ball, keep the ball and try to play. I can also help the defence as well.
"I think it was a very good performance. After going 1-0 down we finally got one point but the feeling in the dressing room was a bit disappointing because we were playing for the three points.
"We created chances with great football. We are calm because we know we are on the right way. The reaction of the players, the fans and everybody shows that the win has to come," he added.
