Ferguson: Foley Was Top Target

Barry Delighted To Bring In Right-Back

Barry Ferguson has revealed that Kevin Foley was his top target to come in and fill a void at right-back.

The 29-year-old has joined The Seasiders on a one-month loan deal from Wolves and goes straight into the squad to face Watford on Saturday.

"With Tony being out through suspension, I don't like to play people out of position," Ferguson said. "The chairman gave me the go-ahead to go and try and get somebody, and Kevin was somebody I've known for a long time.

"I played against him when I was at Birmingham and I asked a few people about him as well, which I always do. They all came back with positive things and I obviously know what he can do on the pitch.

"He was at the top of the list - there was two that I was desperate to get in and he was one of them - and thankfully we got it through yesterday."

Although Jack Robinson will be absent on the other side of defence for the next three matches, Ferguson is more than happy to let Andy Halliday drop back and cover.

"Andy Halliday has played there a number of times at Middlesbrough. He did a great job at Ipswich so I've got no problems putting Andy there," he said.

In other news, Ferguson has confirmed that Freddy Adu will not be offered a contract following a training stint with the club.

"I've got plenty of players in that position. We gave Freddy the facility to come in and train and he's played a few games, but I'm strong enough in that position," he added.
