Seasiders Beat Fleetwood TownBlackpool’s youth team returned to winning ways with a 5-0 thrashing of Fleetwood Town at Squires Gate training ground on Saturday.
George Lomax scored twice for the young Seasiders and Dion Charles, Connor Thurston and substitute Conor Ready all added to the striker’s efforts.
The result moved Pool seven points clear of Walsall at the top of the Football League Youth Alliance’s North West table, leaving Richie Kyle pleased with his side’s response to the 2-2 draw at Wigan Athletic the weekend before.
Kyle, Head of Coaching, said: “We wanted a reaction to the second-half performance at Wigan and I thought we absolutely dominated the game against Fleetwood.
“We had to battle against the elements in very difficult conditions, and I’m glad we got back to keeping a clean sheet and being solid defensively.”
Striker Dom Telford, who came on to have a hand in the late equaliser at Wigan the week before, earned a spot in the starting line-up and responded with three assists for Blackpool’s goals.
Speaking about Telford, Kyle said: “Dom was disappointed not to get a starting spot last week but he’s proved that he’s got what it takes when we put him in.”
The youth team’s next scheduled fixture is not until Saturday 22 February away to Burnley. However, it is likely one of the pending cup ties Blackpool await will be organised to go ahead before then.
