Five Things We Learned

17 February 2014

What to take from the weekend's action...

Whilst the FA Cup may have taken centre stage this weekend, there was still seven Championship matches which made an impact at both ends of the table.

Blackpool claimed a point at Ipswich, whilst four clubs below The Seasiders drew with each other.

Meanwhile, the transfer movement has continued in England’s second tier, here is five things we learned over the weekend.

Breathing space…

Burnley gained an extra point on their rivals at the top of The Championship on Saturday, despite not winning.

Sean Dyche’s side drew 1-1 at Bournemouth, and that proved to be a good point after QPR lost 24 hours later at home to Reading.

Leicester were out of action, but remain seven points ahead of The Clarets at the summit.

Huddersfield haunt Clark…

Birmingham’s preparations for their trip to Bloomfield Road were far from ideal, as Lee Clark was beaten by his former side.

Huddersfield won 2-1 at St Andrews, which meant City will remain below Pool going into Saturday’s clash.

Stalemate in Yorkshire derby…

Below Blackpool in the table sit Barnsley and Doncaster, and the pair couldn’t be separated at The Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday.

Nick Proschwitz scored late on for the visitors in the South Yorkshire derby, but his side remain five points from safety.

Leon looks to get back to his best…

Strugglers Sheffield Wednesday may have been out of action this weekend, as their FA Cup clash was postponed, but they’ve strengthened their squad for the next month.

Striker Leon Best has moved to Hillsborough on loan from Blackburn, having fallen out of favour at Ewood Park.

Best is joined by Sam Hutchinson, who joined The Owls on loan from Chelsea for 28 days.

Cesar departs…

And the final high-profile departure was that of Julio Cesar, who has left QPR on loan and linked up with MLS side Toronto FC.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has played just once this season and will now remain in America until the end of the season.
