Five Things We Learned

13 January 2014

What to take from the weekend

Blackpool may not have had a productive Saturday, but we learned plenty from around The Championship this weekend.

Varying debuts at the Yorkshire clubs, injury blows and the title chasers, all is covered in this week’s Five Things We Learned.

Foxes On Fire

Leicester continued their fine form on Friday night, as they beat promotion rivals Derby 4-1 in front of the Sky cameras.

The Foxes have now won five on the spin and are four points clear at the top of The Championship.

All Is Well At Huddersfield

A day after completing his move to Huddersfield, Nahki Wells scored a stoppage time winner to earn The Terriers three points on Saturday.

The striker joined for a club record fee, and his winner ruined Ian Holloway’s first game as Millwall manager.

Barnsley Given Weekend Off

Blackpool’s opponents next week are Barnsley, and they received a free week after their match at Charlton fell foul to the weather.

It wasn’t the first time The Valley has struggled with the elements this season, and it means The Tykes will have had a two-week rest ahead of Saturday’s game at Oakwell.

Day To Forget For Leeds

Leeds may have been busy in the transfer market, but debutants Jimmy Kebe and Cameron Stewart couldn’t make an impact on Saturday.

Leeds fell to a disappointing 6-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday, where Stuart Gray gave himself every chance of getting the Hillsborough job permanently.

Brighton Injury Blow

Finally, Brighton were dealt a blow yesterday, as midfielder Andrew Crofts was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Crofts, who has played 24 times this season, will be out for six months after rupturing his cruciate ligaments against Birmingham on Saturday.
