Youth Team Beat Morecambe College 4-1Blackpool Head of Coaching Richie Kyle declared himself 'very pleased' with his side’s opening pre-season fixture on Wednesday.
The youth team recorded a comfortable 4-1 victory against Morecambe College, with goals coming from Joe Moulden, Alieu Njie and Elliot Pond (2). The side had no fewer than eight first years in the starting eleven.
“It was a good workout in the heat and the lads got through it well,” Kyle said. “I’m very impressed as we’ve only had a handful of training sessions and I was delighted with the effort.
“To have eight new lads in the starting eleven was a challenge but the players gelled quickly and were playing in the style that we’re trying to get from them here, so they’ve adapted quickly in training, which is pleasing.”
Alieu Njie was one who managed to get himself on the score-sheet and Kyle was quick to praise the young man.
“We’ve only had Alieu here since Saturday so he’d only had three training sessions since he moved up from London so for him to play so well and get a goal was great to see, but in fairness all the first years impressed me. It was a good performance.”
The Seasiders were forced to work even harder as they only had eleven men at their disposal, something that Kyle felt was beneficial.
“We looked strong physically, we had no substitutes so all the lads had to get 90 minutes and it was good intensity, especially in this heat.
“This hot weather is great because it’s harder on the lads, the pitches are in good condition and it means we can stay out a bit longer on the training pitch which helps.”
With no injuries to report, Kyle will now prepare his side for a home clash against Eagley FC on Saturday morning, and while he concedes it's always good to win, match sharpness is what these early fixtures are all about.
“The game on Saturday will be like the one against Morecombe College, physically demanding but it’s about building the lads’ strength up, as well as getting them to play well so we’re ready for the start of the season,” he added.
