Ferguson Challenge For Grandin

25 March 2014

Barry Looks For Improvement

Barry Ferguson has challenged Elliot Grandin to improve his work-rate and prove why he should be a regular in the Blackpool team.

The Frenchman, currently in his second spell at Bloomfield Road, started his first game for Barry Ferguson on the weekend following his return to Bloomfield Road last month.

No doubting his creative ability, Ferguson wants the 26-year-old to show plenty of commitment on a daily basis.

"I brought Elliot in for the simple fact that ability-wise he's frightening. Work-rate wise he could work a bit harder," Ferguson admitted.

"He never knew he was going to be playing against Huddersfield, I just sprung it on him. He's short of match fitness because he's not been involved pretty much since I've brought him in.

"He's a player that I like and if I can get Elliot working a bit harder then Elliot will be a really good player for me. It's up to Elliot. As I say, ability-wise he's up there with the best I've played with, but he needs to show me that every single day in training.

"I like people who work hard in training, I think you've got to train the way you play. Sometimes Elliot's a bit laid back but I'm hoping that I can get more out of Elliot because he could be a big plus for us," he added.

Granding remains part of the Blackpool squad making the short trip to Bolton this evening, although defender Kirk Broadfoot will miss out with a knee problem.
