Blackpool 3 Accrington 1
Blackpool’s youth team continued their march towards the North West crown with victory over Accrington Stanley at Squires Gate Training Ground on Saturday.
The young Seasiders added to an Accrington own-goal with efforts from Dion Charles and Henry Cameron to complete the win, despite Stanley forcing a leveller before half-time through Dalian Barker.
Head of Coaching Richie Kyle was delighted with the result, knowing a perfect finish to the season will see his side win the North West division title.
“It was a difficult match against Accrington,” said Kyle. “We haven’t come up against a team like them for a while and it was hard to get to grips with at first.
“They were very direct and tried to play a lot more than the last time we played them, but we know we’re going to come up against different styles.”
There will be no competitive action for the youth team at the weekend although they face Wigan Athletic in a friendly on Saturday 8 March at Squires Gate Training Ground – 11am kick-off.
Blackpool are waiting to confirm whether they have been granted Category 3 status for the Academy, with an audit taking place between Wednesday and Sunday.
The youth team have also been drawn away to Bradford City in the semi-finals of the Youth Alliance Cup – Northern Section.
Hull City host Lincoln City in the other Northern semi-final while Watford, Colchester United, Portsmouth and Cheltenham Town compete for a place in the Southern section final.
The young Seasiders’ next competitive action sees them travel to Wrexham on March 15.
