Midfielder On The Season And Future
Angel Martinez has been left to reflect back on his time in Blackpool both on and off the field, and he hopes it won’t be ending this summer.
The midfielder’s contract will expire next month, and he is set for a nervous wait as Pool look to leave the decision on contracts to the new manager.
“Whatever happens Blackpool will be with me, it’s been a pleasure to be here and hopefully I’ll see you soon,” said Angel. “I finished my contract, this season was my option. I’m happy to leave the team in The Championship, and we’ll see now.
“I love it here, with the fans, the club, everything. I have my first home here and I learned English here, so you can imagine how special it is for me. My daughter was born in Blackpool too.
“You don’t know in football with the contract and offers, but it was a pleasure to live here for three years.”
The Spaniard made 28 appearance for Blackpool this campaign, which saw him surpass 70 for the club over his three seasons in Lancashire.
After signing from Espanyol on a free transfer in 2011, Angel enjoyed a play-off push in his opening campaign – stark contrast to the one which has recently concluded.
“Always I’m thinking about the seasons, the first one was the best with the play-off final. This season we were going into the last matches with pressure, it’s not the way the players want to play.
“It’s been very difficult, it feels so long just one season. Going so long without a win, it was a difficult situation, but the most important thing is we are safe.
“We have to now enjoy it, then Blackpool have a big job ahead to learn from the experience and do things better. Blackpool now have a great job in the summer, so the next year will be better and not the same situation,” said Angel.
