Seasiders Beat Cardiff CityJosé Riga was delighted to see his Blackpool side pick up a first victory of the season against Cardiff City.
The Seasiders, without a number of players due to injury, had Francois Zoko to thank for scoring the all important goal, in what was an all action display at Bloomfield Road.
"The most important thing is to get this first win," Riga beamed. "I'm delighted it has happened at home, and also in our circumstances because Peter Clarke, Andrea Orlandi, Joe Lewis and José Cubero were not available. After 20 minutes I had to change Joan Oriol so I think it is a result of the work we do. I congratulate my staff, too."
Having picked up recent draws against Wolves, Brighton and Middlesbrough, the manager says the challenge now is to build on this and move further forward.
"We kept a result today but the important thing is to now stay at this level because this is only a first step. If we want to perform all season then we need a little more," he admitted.
Elliott Parish, making his debut in goal, had little to do for most of the match but was reliable when called upon, especially in the closing stages.
"Sometimes you don't have a lot to do but you need to be there when we need you," Riga explained. "His clearances and everything were very good and he did things with a lot of maturity."
After being praised by the opposition for spirited displays this season, this first victory of the campaign brings confidence and a move off the bottom of The Championship table.
"Most of the time we have had the congratulations of the opponent, but it is easy to give congratulations when you win a game. It is important to be off the bottom but it is only the first step," Riga added.
