Skipper Answers Quick-Fire QuestionsAfter facing his former-club Middlesbrough last night, Tony McMahon answers some quick-fire questions.
Who was your sporting hero growing up?
Ryan Giggs. I'm a Manchester United fan and he was always my favourite player. I always wanted to be like Giggs, but it didn't quite work out.
What is your career highlight so far?
Making my debut against Manchester United. It was the team I supported, so to go to Old Trafford was brilliant.
And the worst moment?
Breaking my leg against Liverpool. It was a horrible moment and I'd prefer not to talk about it.
Who was your first junior football club?
Barnard Castle. It was my local team, I started there at a really young age before I went to Middlesbrough when I was 12. I was a striker there and scored all the goals, but went to Middlesbrough and soon found out I was a defender.
If you could change one rule in football what would it be?
Diving. I've got to be careful because I got booked last season for diving, but we need to get rid. We need to really clamp down on it and start sending people off.
Who is the best player in your position in the world currently?
Dani Alves. He has been one of the best, if not the best, for a number of years now. He is a top player.
What is the one programme on TV that you can't miss?
I only really watch football, so Match of the Day on a Saturday. If I can't see it then it's always on record.
If you could have dinner with three famous people who would you invite?
Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods and David Beckham – all three have been at the top of their sports for years, although they probably wouldn't know who I was.
What is your trademark dish in the kitchen?
I don't go in the kitchen, my missus looks after me. I could probably make beans on toast at a push.
In a film of your life who would play you?
Nobody could play me, I'm one of a kind. Probably the closest thing to me is my son, he's just as daft as I am, so it'd have to be him.
