Midfielder Ruled Out of Season OpenerNeil McDonald has revealed that John Herron will miss out on a competitive Blackpool debut at Colchester United this weekend due to a knee problem.
The midfielder, who joined the club from Celtic this summer, has sat out recent pre-season friendlies with a knock sustained in training.
"There's only one person who is not available and that's John Herron, he took a little bit of a kick during pre-season and his knee swelled up so he's receiving treatment," McDonald said.
"I've got 20 players to choose from, which is brilliant considering how many I had when I first came through the door."
The manager, who watched Colchester United in action against Fulham last weekend, is pleased with Blackpool's progression prior to the big kick-off.
"I went to watch Colchester last week so I've got an idea on how they play. I've watched six or seven teams in our league already so that gives me confidence on where we're at.
"The players are certainly fit and where we want them to be at this time, leading in to this first game. Pre-season games give you confidence and a little bit of momentum, and we've got that momentum. We've been in the lead and come from behind, which is a good sign.
"It's now about crossing the white line and seeing how they cope with the pressure and seeing how they cope with the opposition. We'll see where we're actually at, after a good pre-season with three wins and three draws, when it kicks off on Saturday.
"Everybody is really looking forward to it, they're chomping at the bit and we can't wait to get started," he added.
