Manager Ahead Of Bramall Lane Trip
Encouraged by an impressive first 45 minutes against Burton Albion in midweek, Neil McDonald has called on his Blackpool side to prolong their purple patches in matches.
A polar opposite second-half display reversed a positive result against The Brewers and McDonald doesn’t want a similar outcome when he side travel to Sheffield United on Saturday.
“We’ve played well in patches, but we need to make them patches bigger,” said McDonald. “The first-half against Burton showed where we can get to, but it has to last longer than 45 minutes.
“The most disappointing thing is how good we’ve been to how bad we’ve been, we’ve got to close that gap as much as we can. The boys have had a bit of feedback and have taken everything on board.
“We need to be less tense trying to win the football game, we’ve not won in four games so we need to arrest that as quickly as we possibly can. We need to get that win so we can relax when we’re playing football.”
Pool travel to in-form Sheffield United on Saturday looking for a first three points of the season and McDonald believes his team will be set-up well to pick up maximum points.
“We’ll have a little bit of a game plan, either to break them down or get at them, stop them from doing what they’re good at.
“It’s going to be tough but the pressure is all on them. There will be a big crowd, it will be a great atmosphere, it’s a great stadium to play in and the lads should respond to that,” he added.
