Blackpool Travel To Yorkshire
Fixture | Sheffield United vs Blackpool
Date | 22 August 2015
Venue | Bramall Lane
In their latest quest for a first victory of the season, Blackpool travel to League One heavyweights Sheffield United, who are now embarking on a fifth season at this level.
Blackpool go into the contest on the back of successive home defeats, the latest of which came at the hands of Burton Albion on Tuesday evening.
However, striker Jack Redshaw did get himself off the mark for the season against The Brewers, and Neil McDonald will look to him and Mark Cullen for inspiration at the weekend.
Performing at the largest stadium in the division, The Seasiders will hope to give themselves an early season boost by halting The Blades’ momentum.
Sheffield United enter Saturday’s game with back-to-back victories under their belt, after a comprehensive win at Peterborough United on Tuesday.
Derby County loanee Conor Sammon struck twice at London Road, before Jose Baxter wrapped up a 3-1 victory.
A week ago United beat Chesterfield 2-0 on home soil, banishing the memory of an opening day hammering at Gillingham.
Manager Nigel Adkins has goals all but guaranteed in Sammon, Baxter and Billy Sharp, as The Blades look to banish the memory of last season’s play-off heartbreak.
McDonald will again be without the services of Colin Doyle and John Herron for the trip to South Yorkshire. The manager confirmed he picked up no fresh knocks during Tuesday’s defeat to Burton.
The Blades will sweat on the fitness of Neill Collins and Stefan Scougall, after the duo limped out of Tuesday’s game early. Meanwhile, Ryan Flynn, Craig Alcock, Terry Kennedy and former Seasider Harrison McGahey stepped up their recovery from injury by featuring in a friendly this week.
Blackpool Manager McDonald said: “The pressure is all on them, whether we’re underdogs or not it doesn’t really matter, it’s still early in the season. Everyone is still learning what each manager is trying to put across, so it should be an interesting game.”
United boss Adkins said: “Our momentum is building and we have got honest, hard-working professionals at Sheffield United. We respect the opposition, you have to, and we have done our research on them. We are under no illusions, every game is a challenge in this division.”
