Skipper On Burton Trip
Skipper David Ferguson says Blackpool must use Monday’s defeat to their advantage and learn their lessons when they travel to Burton Albion this weekend.
The Seasiders put in an uncharacteristic defensive display on their way to shipping four goals at Oakwell, but have analysed the game thoroughly to ensure similar mistakes are avoided.
Now the focus has turned to a trip to high-flying Burton, where Ferguson knows they’ll have to be on their game if they’re to claim a fourth clean sheet in five matches.
“The Gaffer explained that Barnsley was a learning curve so now we’ve just got to take it into the rest of the season,” explained Ferguson.
“The game’s gone now, we can’t change it, we’ve got to focus on Burton on Saturday and get back to winning ways.”
Ferguson was part of the Pool side which impressed against Burton during the first-half in August, only to lose 2-1, and the defender is thinking positively about the return fixture.
“When they came here they looked like a solid team and took two late goals off us. We’ve got to go there, I know they’re unbeaten in quite a few, but we’ve got to try our best.
“We can’t dwell on the defeat to Barnsley because we’ve just taken points off Wigan and Peterborough, who were in form.
“We did very well to get a clean sheet against them and I think Barnsley was just a blip, so now we’ve just got to focus on Burton,” he added.
