Pool In Boxing Day Action
Brimming with confidence after three pre-Christmas victories, Blackpool return to action this Boxing Day and take on Oldham Athletic, who have proved a tough side to beat on the road this season.
The Seasiders saw off Peterborough United to create breathing space on the bottom four last time out, while The Latics claimed their eleventh draw of the season at Coventry City, which left them inside the relegation zone.
Martin Paterson is expected to miss out for Pool with a calf injury, while Jack Redshaw is also set for another afternoon on the sidelines. Colin Doyle is progressing well, but Lloyd Jones and Henry Cameron remain out.
As for Oldham, Jonathan Forte is likely to be their only absentee with a knee injury, while Rhys Murphy has returned from his loan spell with Crawley Town. The contest is set to provide former Seasiders Richie Wellens and Ricardo Fuller with an opportunity to face their former club.
Neil McDonald: “We've been winning games recently so we're looking forward to the Christmas period. Oldham at home and Barnsley away are two very good games for us at the moment.”
David Dunn on the return of Murphy: “Rhys has scored a few goals where he has been and he will come back into the squad and hopefully he can pick up where he left off at Crawley.”
Referee Paul Tierney will take charge of the fixture on Boxing Day for his first Blackpool game since September 2014. He’ll be assisted by Steven Copeland and Williams Smallwood, while the fourth official will be Paul Hodskinson.
Loanees Elliot Lee and Will Aimson are the subject of the main interviews inside the latest festive edition of Up The Pool. Liam Kelly provides the away perspective, while Hayden White goes Under The Spotlight. There’s also plenty of festive content inside, as well as a sporting quiz.
