The Opposition Guide: Burton Albion

31 December 2015

A Look At Saturday's Opponents

Blackpool start 2016 with a visit to high-flying Burton Albion on Saturday, looking to get back on track following a defeat to Barnsley on Monday.

Ahead of the second meeting between The Seasiders and The Brewers this season, we take a look at the opposition.

Nigel Clough is now back in charge at the Pirelli Stadium, having previously left the club for Derby County in 2009.

The 49-year-old, who was last in management with Sheffield United, achieved two promotions during his last spell with Burton Albion and set the foundations for the club's elevation to The Football League.

He replaced Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at the helm earlier this month and has overseen two victories and a draw in that time.

Burton's promotion form from last season has carried over into this campaign, with the club currently sitting second in the Sky Bet League One table.

The Brewers have won five of their last six matches and haven't tasted defeat at home in the league since September.

Abdenasser El Khayati was the match-winner the last time Blackpool met Burton Albion, hitting a brace in a 2-1 victory.

A product of the PSV youth academy, the 26-year-old moved to Burton from Kozakken Boys in January and quickly established himself as a fans' favourite.

He has scored eight goals so far this season, with his most recent coming against Millwall at the start of the month.
