Manager Reflects On Late Cup ExitLee Clark felt Blackpool deserved at least a replay following a performance he was proud of at Aston Villa.
A late goal from Christian Benteke ended the club's hopes of progressing to the next round of the FA Cup, yet that didn't dampen the manager's optimism.
"I can only praise my team, I thought the players were outstanding," he said. "We restricted Aston Villa to very few chances and we were a threat on the break. There were some good performances out there.
"My old team-mate has been one of the outstanding performers, Shay Given. He's been busier than Joe and made two terrific saves. We deserved at least a replay today.
"The lads have enjoyed the environment they've played in and the stadium, they've passed the ball really well and have been very, very unfortunate because we could have caused one of the shocks of the round."
Attentions now turn to a Championship fixture against Millwall on Saturday, as the players look to kick-start their season and chase down the teams above them.
"Next weekend's game is even more important than this one, it's bigger. I'm seeing lots of positives that can give us optimism for the second part of the season and us achieving what we want to do.
"In the next few days I'll be sitting down with the chairman to try and secure one or two new faces definitely for Millwall. There's plenty of confidence we can gain from today's performance," he added.
