Defender On Fresh Role
Tom Aldred is pleased to be adding further strings to his bow after spending the majority of pre-season being utilised at right back.
A centre half by trade, Aldred has moved across to the right with confidence and feels it will be beneficial to him in the long-term.
“It’s different because I’ve not played there in my career before, but I’m enjoying it,” said Aldred. “Obviously the manager sees something in me to play me there.
“I feel like I’m physically suitable to play there and it’s another string to my bow. It’s more physical than playing at centre half and it’s a learning curve if I obviously return there.”
The defender moved to Bloomfield Road in the January transfer window, but a hamstring injury coupled with suspension restricted him to just six Championship appearances.
“Obviously when I first joined the club it was a bit of a chaotic period and with me getting injured I wasn’t really part of it last season. It’s a fresh start for me and I feel like a new player as well.
“I think it’s a surprise how quickly we’ve gelled. It seems like we’ve got a good spirit and the lads are knowing each other’s whereabouts on the pitch."
Pre-season will conclude for Blackpool at the 24-year-old’s former employers, as they prepare to take on Accrington Stanley on Friday evening.
“I’m looking forward to going back because it’s obviously a club I did well at. It will always be part of me wherever I go, I enjoyed my time there and played ever so many games in a row,” he added.
