Preview: Accrington Stanley vs Blackpool

31 July 2015

Pre-Season Concludes At The Crown Ground

Fixture: Accrington Stanley vs Blackpool
Date: Friday 31 July, 7:45pm
Venue: The Crown Ground

The curtain closes on Blackpool’s pre-season schedule under the lights on Friday evening, as they take their unbeaten record to Accrington Stanley.

The Seasiders have avoided defeat in their previous five friendlies but were held to a draw by League Two Morecambe on Tuesday.

With the League One kick-off just over a week away, Friday’s clash at The Crown Ground will give Neil McDonald a final chance to watch his squad in action.

He’ll be particularly interested in Kwame Thomas, who is set for a first run out after joining on loan from Derby County this week.

As for Stanley, they’ve had a busy pre-season, with the Blackpool fixture their ninth of the month. Victories over Burnley and Rochdale catch the eye, but John Coleman’s men have tasted defeat against Colne and Blackburn Rovers.

They’ve got midfielder Gerardo Bruno, who previously made four appearances for Blackpool,  amongst their ranks, while Pool’s Tom Aldred faces a return to the club he departed back in January.

The defender played his part in taking Accrington to a 17th place finish in League Two last season, before switching to Bloomfield Road having made six shy of 100 appearances in red.

The two clubs have met just once in competitive action, back in 2006 when a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clashed finished 4-4, only for Stanley to win on penalties.

For full coverage of Friday’s friendly stay tuned for updates on the club’s Twitter account, while all the reaction will be published on the official club website.
