Blackpool Draw On The Road
Blackpool twice led in their pre-season friendly with Morecambe on Tuesday, but were forced to settle for a draw at the Globe Arena.
Mark Cullen’s tidy finish and a fortunate strike from trialist Adam Drury twice had The Seasiders in the driving seat, but their gritty hosts forced the draw thanks for goals from Lee Molyneux and Kevin Ellison.
Cullen drilled home the first goal of the contest, only for Molynuex to haul his side level with a low finish after the break.
Pool edged back ahead when Drury’s cross took a deflection on its way into the home goal, but veteran Ellison came off the bench to ensure the two sides finished level.
Jack Redshaw donned the captain’s armband on his old stomping ground, but it was his former employers who threatened first through Alex Kenyon.
Blackpool settled soon enough however, and after Brad Potts had tested Barry Roche, trialist Drury had an effort blocked from almost on the goal line.
So when the opening goal arrived on 19 minutes it was no surprise to anyone inside the Globe Arena that it belonged to Blackpool.
Redshaw’s flick sent Cullen scampering down the right and once the striker jinxed past his man the angle was perfect to rifle across goal and into the bottom corner.
Determined to not instantly relinquish the lead, Colin Doyle did well to keep out a long range effort from Laurence Wilson, before he saw a shot from former Seasider Tom Barkhuizen fly wide.
Half Time: Morecambe 0 Blackpool 1
After the interval Morecambe improved and came close to equalising when Paul Mullin forced substitute Kyle Letheren to tip over.
However, with their next attack Letheren could do nothing to stop the final product finding the back of his net. Molyneux found a yard of space and drilled a low effort into the bottom corner, beyond the Welshman.
Thankfully for Neil McDonald he had a trialist on hand to put his team back in front 12 minutes later. It wasn’t without an ounce of luck, but the deflection on Drury’s cross was enough to put off Roche and find the back of the net.
The goals continued to come however, and The Shrimps levelled for a second time when veteran Ellison fizzed an effort into the bottom in similar fashion to Molyneux.
It proved to be the final action of the contest, as Blackpool’s unbeaten pre-season continued at Morecambe.
