Robertson: Hard To Break Down

27 July 2015

Defender Pleased With Back Five

With just two goals conceded, Clark Robertson has been pleased with Blackpool’s defensive form throughout pre-season, despite changes in personnel each game.

The 21-year-old has started all four of Pool’s friendlies but has been partnered by three separate centre halves in Tom Aldred, Lloyd Jones and Charles Dunne.

Having registered another 90 minutes at St Johnstone on Saturday, as well as recording a clean sheet, Robertson says the early signs are good at the back.

“Whoever I play with we’ve got a good partnership at the back, whoever the back four is,” said Robertson. “I’m enjoying it. As a back five I think we look really solid and hard to break down.

“Saturday we got a good 90 minutes under our belts and with a clean sheet you can’t ask for more than that in a defensive performance.

“I thought going forward we looked a real threat. We could have scored a couple more goals, Mark (Cullen) had a good chance, so all in all it was a good workout for us.”

The Seasiders concluded a week’s training camp in Robertson’s home nation of Scotland on Saturday and the defender believes it’s a tight-knit group which returns.

“We’ve worked on a lot of things on the training field, both defensively and attacking. I think there’s been a real bond and togetherness, which bodes well for the season.

“There’s so many new boys coming in, everyone is in the same position and it’s easy to gel. It was good to be back up in Scotland for a week and it was nice to play with a few of my old teammates from Aberdeen,” he added.
