Midfielder Becomes Latest Signing

Blackpool FC have tied up former Celtic midfielder John Herron on a two-year contract, with an option of a further year.

The Scotland Under-21 international will officially join the club on 1 July and becomes Neil McDonald's fifth new signing as Blackpool manager.

The 21-year-old can play anywhere across the midfield and has spent his entire career at Celtic Park, barring a five-game loan spell with Cowdenbeath last season.

On signing, Herron said: “After I spoke to the manager it was the only place I wanted to come. I had a lot of other options in Scotland and England, including in The Championship, but after hearing the progression the manager wants, for me it was the only place to come.

“I've been at Celtic since I was seven, but it's a different situation here and I'm here to win games. It's a new challenge, I want to progress and help Blackpool, and hopefully Blackpool can help me.”

Herron, who has previously played with new Blackpool teammate Clark Robertson on international duty, will begin training with The Seasiders when pre-season starts next week.
