First Session Takes Place at HighfurlongBlackpool FC Community Trust are the first club in the North West to deliver Power Chair football sessions.
The scheme launched last week at Highfurlong School, Blackpool Old Road, and has generated fantastic interest amongst pupils, staff and parents.
The game involves specially-designed attachments for wheelchairs so that the youngsters who use them can play football in a fun, safe and enjoyable environment. The attachments allow participants to control the giant footballs around the pitch, intercept the ball and score goals.
Rick Bryan, Inclusion Officer, said: “It has been a terrific addition to our inclusion programme and we are excited to develop the scheme across other schools in the area. It has provided a new and exciting version of the game, which has been extremely popular.”
Graham, a teacher at Highfurlong, added: “The new scheme is thriving in the school and has provided a fantastic opportunity for our pupils. It has improved their self-esteem and confidence, as well as engaging them in physical activity.”
