Youth Team Secure First Win of 2015Richie Kyle was left relieved after his Blackpool Youth side secured their first victory of the year after defeating Fleetwood Town 1-0.
Sam Roscoe’s thumping header was enough to claim all three points for The Seasiders and Kyle was extremely proud by the effort levels shown by his players.
“I’m relieved, that’s our first win this year and I thought the lads thoroughly deserved it,” Kyle said. “They battled hard and created the most chances, but at one stage I didn’t think the ball was going to go in for us. However, I did feel that we were the only team that looked like winning it and with a bit of luck from the penalty save, we did just that.
“On the whole I’m pleased with the team as I thought we played well and perhaps we should have won by more than one goal, but I am pleased for everyone involved that we got the three points.”
With Blackpool Youth’s winless streak about to enter into its third month Kyle explained how important the victory was for his side.
“I know at this stage it’s about development, but we always want to win football matches. It has been difficult because we haven’t had a full strength team and we have had lads go up to the first-team, which is great, but it’s had an impact on us.
“We haven’t put the same team out on a weekly basis this season and we’ve had to chop and change. Three under-16s played for us on Saturday and I thought they were terrific.
“I am made up for the boys because of all the effort they have a put in and a special mention to the younger lads because I thought they made the difference.”
After sealing victory over their local rivals Kyle has laid down a challenge for his team for the remainder of the season.
“I have challenged the lads to go on now and see how many wins we can get and to play with a bit of freedom.
“They have got that monkey off their backs after their first game of the year and we had luck on our side, which is something that we haven’t had in recent weeks. Hopefully we can go and finish the season as strongly as possible,” he added.
